Strappy Stool

Seating Zone specializes in office, desk, and computer chairs, but you should know that’s not all we do!  We also have an array of really fun bar stools, perfect for outfitting a kitchen, home bar, restaurant, or any office space that requires higher than normal seating (not to mention a dose of flair!).

Today I want to spotlight the ModZ 0703, an elegant example featuring classic design and clean lines.  There’s nothing fussy, complicated, or show-y about this bar stool, but the woven leatherette strap back adds just a touch of interest — taking a utilitarian item and raising it to the level of design.

The chrome steel tube frame is also just slightly out of the ordinary here…  Look closely, and you’ll see the attention to detail: slim lines, the retro-chic sparkle of chrome, and the unusual detail of the arc cross bar.

All in all, this is one stool that’s definitely a cut above average.  Also available in white.

Tattoo Chairs

Think you love chairs? How about having one permanently inked onto your skin?

Even for an enthusiast like me, it’s hard to see what would possess people to wear a chair image for the rest of their lives, but I have to admit, they are very attractive representations. The artist, Nick Baxter, clearly has excellent taste in classic chairs.

Can’t go wrong with the Barcelona Chair.

Gaudi Chair

I wanted to take a quick break from office chairs to share this beautiful piece designed by Antonio Gaudi. It’s a simple side chair, carved from solid oak, but for all its simplicity, it is somehow immediately evocative of Barcelona and all the architecture Gaudi contributed to that city.  The sinuous lines, almost like a crouching animal or an ocean wave…  I’m sure a chair like this will be providing inspiration for chair designers for years to come.

Cozy Cottage Desk

Today I’m highlighting this cozy Cottage Collection Home Desk, from Bush Furniture. Perfect for the home or for an office that wants to feel like home, the quaint details on this desk suggest the country cottage lifestyle: fresh country air and long summer evenings.

The Cottage Collection Home Desk features cherry finished tops, a pencil drawer/keyboard shelf, a discreet CPU storage compartment, optional lateral file, and a six year warranty! It’s also available with an optional stack-on storage hutch, as seen here. Wow, you know, the desk is very nice, but it really looks stylish with the hutch!

Gun Chair

Yikes! I don’t care if those guns are decommissioned, I don’t really want to sit on them. Just think: you’re sitting down to dinner or getting ready to watch some TV and… kaBOOM! No, I like my chairs a little less potentially explosive, thanks.

Joking aside, this “Throne of Weapons” was designed by Mozambican artist Kester out of weapons decommissioned following the civil war in Mozambique. According to Bristol Indymedia, “The throne was made as part of the Transforming Arms into Tools (TAE) project where weapons of war are changed into thought provoking symbols of peace as a vivid reminder of the aftermath of 16 years of civil war.” A very moving piece.

If a chair squeaks in an empty office…

… does it make a noise? What is the sound of one arm rest rattling?

These questions and more are posed by the Sealy Posturepedic “Zen” midback leather chair. What exactly makes this chair so zen? Well, the point of zen meditation is to quiet the mind of all distractions in order to allow enlightenment to seep in. If you’ve ever sat in an old or poorly designed office chair, you’ve probably experienced the painful distractions of a sore back and stiff neck that prevent you from being completely present in your thoughts.

The Sealy chair, however, with its built-in adjustable lumbar pillow, sliding seat pan, waterfall seat edge, and perforated leather-covered memory foam, is the perfect choice to quiet the “monkey mind” and allow you to focus on whatever you’re doing — whether that’s meditating or filling out expense reports.

Chair du Jour

Check it out, everyone! There’s a new chair blog on the block!

I’m a recent but already huge fan of Diane Carnevale’s Chair du Jour blog. Every day she posts an elegant and accurate blue and white watercolor of a different chair — famous icons and wacky one-offs, both. Better yet, she’s well educated in the world of chair design, and includes a history of each chair, plus her own always-witty personal commentary. Check it out!
