I’m back with another marvel from the weird and wacky world of chairs. Let me introduce the Hag Capisco Saddle Chair! It’s definitely weird-looking — the first time I saw it, I wasn’t even sure it was meant to be sat upon. It turns out this Scandinavian-designed chair is one of the freshest concepts in ergonomic seating. The idea here is to work against the whole tradition of cushy, comfy chairs that allow you to slump lazily at your desk. By encouraging you to sit up straight and work with the chair, the saddle seat can improve posture, relieve persistent back pain, and help keep you alert throughout the long work day.
Best of all, the saddle chair isn’t meant to be used the same way every time — there are loads of creative approaches to this chair that will keep your mind and body engaged. You can sit on it backwards, rock back and forth, even raise it to near standing height. Check out this flash movie for more ideas.
The HAG Capisco saddle seat is available in three variations: just the stool, with the back, or with a back and head rest. If you’re still hesitating, here’s a great review of the chair, by someone who used the chair for a whole year.
