Okay, is it just me, or is there something slightly suggestive about the shape of the UP 5 and UP 6 armchair and ottoman by gaetano pesce? Well, either way, it does look quite welcoming.

You know I love “orange” chairs, but this one from Varier brings the concept to a whole new level!
We started carrying a the Varier Balans kneeling chair a couple of months ago, as I’ve mentioned before here, but it’s worth pointing out that Varier has a whole line of very swanky, cool, and distinctive seating options. Every one of their beautifully crafted pieces is a work of art, created by some of the most original minds in Norwegian design.
I encourage you to surf around the Varier website and see the spectacular designs illustrated there. So far we don’t have anything but the Balans listed on our sites, but we can get anything from their line — so if anything strikes your fancy, call us at 866-495-0400 for a quote!
I’ve talked here before of my love of Kartell’s sexy plastic chairs. Kartell produces the Louis Ghost, plus other Philip Starck designs… If you share my love, you should check out this interview with the owner and president of Kartell in Yomiuri:
Why does Kartell continue to specialize in plastic?
In the postwar years, plastic was hailed as a breakthrough material that could be used to make a variety of goods. I think it was a very exciting time. But, later on, in the 1980s, consumers had a shift in perception regarding plastic products, and believed plastic was being used in a “cheap” way because it was “inexpensive.” This was a difficult time for the company.
I arrived at Kartell in 1988, just at the end of this period. I realized right away that Kartell was a fantastic firm, but also saw that change was necessary if it was to stay in the market. We needed improvements, more quality, in order to remain within the industry. To that end, we started to use plastic to make things that can’t be made with other materials. I contacted internationally renowned designers such as France’s Philippe Starck, whose thinking was closer to mine.

Just wanted to share the similarly-themed chairs posted on Chair Blog the other day. You could make up a whole naked seating area!
ETA: Okay, there must be something in the air today. I never thought I’d say this, but here’s a furniture link that is definitely not safe for work.
It’s Monday again, and I feel like everyone could probably use a little pick-me-up out in chair land, so I thought I’d share this risque item I ran across in my websurfing:
I have to tell you, this design, called “Him and Her“, made a big splash when I showed it around my office. We don’t carry it right now, but I’m trying to talk my boss into it… Sure, it might be a little unconventional for office furniture, but I’m sure there’s a business out there that would feel extra-inspired siting in a molding of a nude woman (that’s the male version, on the left). At least, I hope so.
