The folks over at Dornob never disappoint. This time it’s with armchairs inspired by TRON: Legacy, designed by Dror Benshetrit.

Made from recyclable material, these chairs are certainly eye-catching, if not totally comfortable. Each piece is designed with colors, angles and materials that call to mind the decades-old question: Are you a program, or are you a user?
ChairBlog‘s found another good one — the impossibly stylish chairs of Jimmie Martin. Like Julia at ChairBlog, I’ve gone through every single one of their jaw-droppingly awesome seating options until I had to hammer my mouth back together. But here are two of my favorite ones, which I’ve chosen because they’re so different from one another.
First, we have KABOOM:
So dynamic! This one blows me away, and I think it’s because of that matching ottoman. It really is like a comic panel come to life!
Then there’s the Edgar Allen Poe side of things:
This was a collaboration piece with jewelry designer/taxidermist Hannah Martin. Quoth the Raven, “Good likeness.”
Oh my! I had to repost this tantalizing bit of design from ChairBlog – the very masculine Mr. Chair, designed by Soojin Hyun for the Milan 2011 furniture fair. The chair seems to lend itself to innumerable goofy poses and would certainly be a conversation piece in an actual room. Can you imagine this as your office chair? I can!
Benjamin Rollins Caldwell is a designer to pay attention to. He’s probably not for everyone, as there’s an almost “shock” value to his furniture that I could see some deriding as tacky. Me? It’s this very quality of his work that I dig. Take, for example, his Spider Chair:
I’m in love with this thing. At first glance, it might seem impractical and uncomfortable, seeing as the cushions are made entirely of recycled zippers and silk ties. But I’ve seen testimonials from other folks on the web (i.e. people who have actually sit in this or on the matching Spider Sofa at various trade shows) that it’s surprisingly cushy. And, of course, it’s just so very COOL. It’s edgy. Caldwell clearly makes furniture for rock stars. I like to imagine the whole Spider Collection inside Alice Cooper’s mansion in the deserts of Arizona; he seems like he’d be Caldwell’s ideal client. What do you think of this creepy design?
Doing a Google image search for the generic term “lifeform” comes up with some pretty scary pictures (mainly of hideous alien artefacts, both “real” and imagined), so I’m afraid I won’t be including them to liven up this post at all. Fortunately for me, the Lifeform relevant to SeatingZone’s interest is a little less creepy: Lifeform Chairs!

The design world is chock-full of innovative and unique chair designs. Every shape, color and style is imaginable, and if it can be invented, it will be. Still, it’s not always possible to give a cool chair an equally cool photo shoot. That’s why I was struck by Russian designer Dima Lognioff‘s Selfish Chair, which won a Design and Design award back in August of this year.
Featuring Russian ballet dancer Alex Torgunakov, the Selfish Chair’s photo spread is definitely not your average chair publicity. The perceived-of connection between a piece of functional design like a chair and the user’s thoughts and emotions interest me greatly. What do you think, gentle readers?

F is for…Flight
For the aviation-obsessed, there’s nothing quite like California-based MotoArt. The artists at MotoArt – and truthfully, while their products are functional, they’re probably closer to the designer chairs made by the artists I sometimes feature here than straight-up office furniture – create beautiful works made from salvaged pieces of airplanes. For example, need a reception desk for your organization that truly creates an impression? Why not pick one up that’s crafted from a B-747 Cowling?
Obviously, a cool aviation-inspired desk requires a cool aviation-inspired chair. This is their B-52 Ejection Chair, “a virtual escape from the gravity of an ordinary executive environment” (ha, ha).
While we don’t have anything quite of this caliber at SeatingZone, I can assure you that our chairs are more affordable. Some of them have kind of an airplane look going on, if you ask me…like this high back ergonomic task chair from Art Design International. While this is probably more of a passenger seat than a pilot’s, it’s zippy and aerodynamic.
Hello everyone. Today I will do a quick post on the famous Hag Capisco Saddle Chair . This saddle inspired chair has a seat that is made from recycled bumpers and packaging from household waste ( just think what you are doing for the environment! ). Its design is based on the dynamic sitting position of the horseman and is geared to adapt to a user that uses the chair for extensive periods of time. Bored? Spin the chair around and sit backwards or sideways! Yes, a very unique piece of furniture for sure.
