gone to the dogs

While searching for, of all things, “giants sitting on chairs,” I came across this astounding image and accompanying story from Sydney, Australia:

A giant Irish wolfhound named Drew is attracting attention – for his habit of sitting on a chair, like owner Pam Mullan, when he goes to visit the vet in Sydney.

I might not believe it possible, but I recently encountered Irish wolfhounds in person for the first time. And let me tell you, they really are big enough to kick back in that waiting room chair along with you!

Corset Chair

The Seating Zone founders are away for the day at NeoCon, checking out a brave new world of chairs and determining which of these new designs we’ll be bringing to you over the next year. How exciting is that? Basically, it’s like Christmas for chair nerds.

Core77 is reporting from the floor, so check them out for some dazzling photos of what the future has in store for all chairkind. I think this Corset Chair, by Janus et Cie, is my personal favorite:

Elegant and functional, but with a slightly naughty subtext… Delicious!

Spring Fling

Hey there! Still recovering from my Easter break, but I thought I’d jump back in with these easter-egg-bright colors from the Milan Furniture Fair:

Of course, these aren’t on the market yet, but if you like the distinctive shape and colors, you might check out our Verner Panton-inspired Molded ABS Side Chairs in orange, green, black, white, and red.

More pictures from the Milan Furniture Fair, see the Furniture Fashion blog.

Tales from the Casting Couch

Okay, you’ve probably all figured it out by now — We’re not really going to start selling tiny chairs. That was just a little joke on my part in honor of April Fool’s day. What is true, however, is that there’s more to seatingzone than just chairs. Did you know we also carry a wide array of couches and loveseats? We have everything from simple waiting room benches to glamorous leather couches like the Marlan 636:

Spring Seating

This Now Seating Inertia Side Chair is one of our most popular sellers, especially for people who want an eye-catching look for their offices. The two-tone color design, space-age arms and mesh back add a certain flair, as compared to the dull, workmanlike designs seen in waiting rooms across the country. It’s also a remarkably sturdy chair — you might not think so from the picture, but this is one chair that can take a beating. And because it comes in a variety of fabrics including health-care grade vinyl, it’s always a popular choice for pediatric doctors’ offices, orthodontists, and veterinarians.

It’s also available with or without arms and casters, and in a huge variety colors, including my favorite — orange!

Elegant Curves

Surfing around the site today, I found this simple yet elegant guest chair from Office Star. The gently curved arms give this one a chic and modern appeal that sets it just slightly apart from run of the mill waiting room furniture. And as an added bonus, the modular design means it can easily be expanded into a love seat or couch.

Black Leather

Someone just called in to order a whole slew of the Boss Box Arm Guest Chair for her hair salon, and I realized I’d never run across them before. I can’t imagine why, because it’s really a sleek, glamorous design that looks far more expensive that it is.

The Durable Black Caresoft upholstery is soft and attractive, like real leather, and complemented by the mahogany-finish frame — plus I particularly like the gently butterflied arm rests, that really give this chair a distinctive shape.

The bosses say this chair is one of the best deals on the site — sturdy workmanship, elegant styling, and all for an unbeatable price. I figured it was due a moment in the spotlight.

space-age seating

The JDS-1693 is a cute little chair that’s quite a bit more stylish than what you might see in your average waiting room — the flashy Italian design definitely sets it apart from the herd.  Well-made and thickly padded, it can be easily expanded on for additional seating (as shown here). It’s also available in a variety of striking colors and fabrics, including easy-clean vinyls appropriate to medical settings.

This eye-catching design is perfect for an office with a little flair.

Rock this town

When most of us think of rocking chairs, we conjure up an image of something like this.

Turns out, though, there’s more to rockers these days than knitting by the fire with a cat in your lap. I personally am a fan of this space-age beauty from Virco.

That’s some slick design for a waiting room, break room, library, or classroom. I love the butter yellow in this picture, but the Virco ZROCK18 Zuma Rocker is available in a wide range of bright, cheerful colors.

Oh, and if that’s not wild enough for you, check out another gorgeous but maybe not so practical rocker.  (Be sure to read the comments on that post.)
